- Temporary & Interim
The charity focuses on addressing systemic inequalities and discrimination in various sectors, including education, employment, and health. It aims to foster a more inclusive and fair society where everyone, regardless of their background, has equal opportunities to thrive. Through its work, the Runnymede Trust engages with policymakers, communities, and individuals to create meaningful change and challenge racial injustice.
The Runnymede Trust was seeking a Head of Finance on a temporary basis to step in within two weeks to ensure a smooth handover from the outgoing postholder. Due to the urgency of the requirement and the breadth of responsibilities involved, they reached out for support after deciding they did not have time to recruit for a permanent role. This temporary position was initially set for four months, covering key financial duties including day-to-day finance, invoice payments, management accounts, year-end reporting and charity finance. Additionally, auditing knowledge was desirable as the auditing process was expected to begin around February/March.
After gaining a thorough understanding of the role’s specifics and its urgency, our consultant Tatiana immediately launched an intensive search for experienced finance professionals who could start quickly. Given the nature of the role, she sought candidates with strong financial expertise, particularly within the charity sector, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic and evolving work environment.
Within a week, Tatiana had conducted a rigorous screening process, identifying and shortlisting the most suitable candidates. Interviews were arranged promptly, and an offer was made to a highly qualified candidate who could meet the organisation’s immediate and future needs.
The chosen candidate seamlessly transitioned into the role and, after six weeks of exemplary performance, was offered a six-month fixed-term contract—demonstrating the perfect alignment between their skills and the organisation’s needs. Not only did they bring essential financial expertise, but they also displayed strong adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a strategic approach to financial management.
Shalena Haughton-Peters (Operations Director at The Runnymede Trust), expressed her gratitude, stating:
“Thank you for your recent recruitment support. Great communication, great outcome, and fantastic engagement.”
This case exemplifies the value of a swift and targeted recruitment approach, ensuring that organisations receive the right talent precisely when they need it most.
