Stephen Elsden, Director, Elsden Charity Consulting – Bio

Stephen is an experienced former Charity Chief Executive and Board Chair, with over 35 years in the UK not for profit sector. He has worked extensively in local, national and international social care delivery organisations, including the British Red Cross and Leonard Cheshire Disability. He has a passion for charity infrastructure work and was a former Board member at both the Institute of Fundraising and the Small Charities Coalition. He is currently lead Board Director of Stronger Kent Communities.

As a freelance consultant trading as Elsden Charity Consulting, Stephen delivers support to charities and social enterprises around aspects such as governance, strategic planning, organisational change and social investment. He also mentors and supports charity leaders and prospective CEOs and Chairs.

Before moving into freelance consulting, he spent 15 years as Chief Executive of Compaid, a service delivery charity for disabled and older people in Kent.

Stephen was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to charities by His Majesty The King in 2024.
