Employee Ownership Trust
Since starting Charity People 35 years ago, our employees have always been at the heart of everything we do.
From our small South London base, we made it our aim to promote the Charity sector as the best to work in, to attract the most talented and committed candidates for the organisations we partner with, and to help not-for-profits recruit more inclusively and effectively. It is thanks to all the hard work, ambition and determination of our colleagues, past and present, that we have been able to make these aims a reality, and become the business that we are today.
In December 2023, Charity People became wholly employee owned. This move enabled our employees to become partners in the business while fostering a sense of accountability and responsibility, driving higher levels of engagement and dedication to the company’s mission. This new ownership model will also protect our existing high levels of staff retention, ensuring a sense of continuity.
What is an Employee Ownership Trust?
An employee ownership trust is a business where the employees all have equal ownership, rather than one specific owner or group of owners.
Why did you become employee owned?
As co-owners, our employees directly benefit from the company’s success through profit-sharing and potential capital appreciation. They are empowered by this role, which brings an increased sense of accountability and responsibility, while driving higher levels of engagement and dedication to our mission. Being employee-owned also protects our existing high levels of staff retention, while increasing overall job satisfaction.
Most importantly, employee ownership preserves Charity People’s culture, values, and legacy. With a focus on inclusivity and fostering a collaborative workplace culture, all employees have the opportunity to participate in key decision-making processes, allowing them to feel valued while contributing to our overall success and growth.
What does this mean for partners and candidates?
Our employee-owned model demonstrates that each and every member of our team is truly committed to doing what’s best for our business – connecting purpose-driven organisations and candidates to create meaningful impacts for the better. Now more than ever, efficiency, honesty and clarity are a must in the recruitment process. At Charity People, we aim to excel in these areas time and again, because our sector and the wider world needs people who genuinely care.
”Employee Owned businesses are typically more productive, invest more, have greater levels of staff retention and contribute to a fairer economy. I wholeheartedly believe in the power of business for good, and this change in ownership supports that belief. I am so excited to play my part in leading a team that will be working towards goals that will be rewarded equally. Moreover, I am incredibly excited that our inspirational and impact-driven clients will know when working with us, that all of our staff have the passion and diligence you would expect from a founder/owner.
