Diversity, equity and inclusion

“The non-profit sector has significant work to do to become more representative of the communities it serves. My role is to support Charity People and our clients to recruit inclusively as we work together to create a diverse, vibrant sector.”

Working towards a diverse sector

We are developing targeted and inclusive recruitment processes to improve sector diversity. We also work in partnership with organisations that support diversity in the workplace recognising the need for continual diverse partnerships in the work that we do.

Benchmarking candidate diversity

We benchmark candidate diversity every year as we carry out our commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Here are the data from our latest survey.

Representation is broadly in line with national census data except for women who are overrepresented.

We expect to see these figures evolve as we continue our diversity journey, matching more candidates from underrepresented groups with charities and non-profits.

A diverse and inclusive team

We believe in growing a diverse and high-performing staff team and we monitor diversity to make sure that belief is becoming a reality.

Here are the results of our most recent staff survey:

Our Commitments to diversity

We are committed to a culture of fairness, respect, support and inclusion for clients, candidates and for our staff team.

We strongly oppose all forms of discrimination and prejudice. We work to an anti-racism charter.

We recruit from a broad range of sources and diverse groups of candidates.

We provide expert advice to clients to make sure that job adverts and information are free from bias and discrimination.

We match charity needs with the skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

We have a Diversity and Inclusion Committee that meets regularly to discuss both our internal and external commitments. Our aim is to be a sector leader when it comes to inclusive recruitment.

We train our consultants regularly on EDI matters such as disability and intersectionality awareness to maintain inclusive practices.

We acknowledge that there will always be more to learn. The inclusion space is constantly evolving and we are open and responsive to change.

“Valuing diversity and fostering inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do, it has the potential to be the difference maker for our clients. Diverse teams perform more effectively and every organisation should be striving to realise that with their hiring.”
