Director – OneRichmond

The Project

OneRichmond is a place-based giving charity working across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Founded by Richmond Foundation and Hampton Fund, and supported by City Bridge Foundation, OneRichmond aims to unlock new funding and foster local philanthropy to address hidden inequalities in one of London’s most affluent boroughs. With a current focus on supporting unpaid carers, the charity is part of the London’s Giving network and is committed to building a connected and thriving community.

Charity People supported OneRichmond in the appointment of its new Director.

Our Approach

OneRichmond was entering a pivotal phase in its development, having recently become an independent charity. Therefore, they needed a dynamic leader to shape its future. The Board sought a Director who could combine strategic vision with hands-on implementation, and who could thrive in a start-up environment while building a legacy of local impact.

Charity People worked closely with the Board to design a recruitment campaign that was inclusive, targeted, and values-led. The search focused on candidates with experience in place-based giving, fundraising across diverse income streams, and a deep understanding of community engagement and charity governance.

The Outcome

Sue Martineau was appointed as Director of OneRichmond. With a strong background in charity leadership, fundraising, and community development, Sue brings the vision, energy, and experience to lead OneRichmond into its next chapter. Her appointment marks a significant milestone for the charity, laying the foundation for deeper local engagement, increased funding, and a stronger support system for Richmond’s unpaid carers and other underserved groups.

The partnership between OneRichmond and Charity People resulted in a successful appointment that reflects the charity’s values and ambitions and supports its mission to create a more connected and equitable borough.
