The Association for Laboratory Medicine (LabMed) is the leading professional body supporting the practice and advancement of science in healthcare and laboratory medicine. It fosters the highest standards in laboratory testing and patient care, while also providing trade union support for its members. LabMed promotes laboratory medicine to the broader community and offers scientists and practitioners access to scientific and training meetings, bursaries, and awards.
LabMed is proud to be an inclusive, innovative community of scientists, clinicians, innovators, and researchers. Its members who are primarily based in the NHS and academia are supported through educational opportunities, career development, funding, and representation. The organisation is forward-thinking, collaborative, and committed to sustainable healthcare practices, with green and EDI champions embedded across its committees and regional groups.
Strategic Context
In 2024, LabMed entered a new strategic phase, developing a five-year plan focused on diagnostics innovation, AI integration, and preventative healthcare. With strong cash flow, ownership of its office building, and no financial concerns, the organisation sought to futureproof its governance and investment strategy.
A key priority was to align its investment portfolio with its values particularly around sustainability and social impact. This included a desire to move into more ethical and responsible investments, reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship and inclusive practice.
