Mind CHWF – Head of Human Resources and Operations

The project

Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest (Mind CHWF) is a leading mental health charity and part of the Mind Federation, supporting over 5,000 people annually through specialist services focused on recovery, early intervention, and wellbeing, particularly for minoritised communities.

Mind CHWF was seeking to appoint a new Head of Human Resources and Operations following the planned departure of the current postholder. With the role being central to both strategic HR leadership and operational oversight, the organisation required a seamless transition and a period of handover to ensure continuity. The recruitment was managed exclusively by Charity People on a permanent basis.

The role was pivotal to the charity’s long-term sustainability, encompassing HR strategy, employee development, facilities, operations management, and contributing to senior decision-making. The successful candidate would need to embody Mind CHWF’s values and bring a coaching approach to leadership, while embedding best practices across the organisation.

Our approach

Our consultant, Tatiana Vera Ostara, led the recruitment process, beginning with a detailed consultation with the Chief Executive to understand the organisation’s needs, values, and the strategic importance of the role. With a clear brief, Tatiana launched a focused search for senior HR professionals with experience in the charity sector and a strong track record in inclusive leadership and operational management.

The recruitment process was completed within two weeks, including targeted outreach, candidate screening, and interviews. After a notice period, the appointed Head of HR and Operations joined Mind CHWF and quickly began making a meaningful impact, strengthening HR systems, supporting staff development, and enhancing operational effectiveness across the organisation.

The result

This successful placement marked a significant milestone for Mind CHWF, ensuring a smooth leadership transition and reinforcing the charity’s commitment to inclusive, values-led HR and operational excellence. The new Head of HR and Operations has quickly become a key member of the Senior Management Team, bringing energy, strategic clarity, and a collaborative spirit to the role.

Their contribution is already being felt across the organisation, with strengthened HR practices, improved staff engagement, and a renewed focus on wellbeing and equity. Charity People is proud to have partnered with Mind CHWF on this important appointment and to have played a part in supporting their continued impact in the community.
