The project
Waldorf Learning Foundation supports and strengthens Waldorf education across the United Kingdom. The organisation promotes a holistic, child-centred approach that integrates academic, artistic, and practical learning, with a deep emphasis on relationships, individuality, and connection to the natural world. Waldorf Learning Foundation works to connect schools, teachers, and communities while advocating for systemic educational transformation rooted in inclusivity, care, and social renewal.
Waldorf Learning Foundation partnered with Charity People to recruit a new cohort of trustees aligned with their values and committed to inclusion.
Our approach
As part of a broader strategy to ensure the recruitment process was open, inclusive, and independently facilitated, Waldorf Learning Foundation engaged Charity People to lead the work. Charity People approached the process with professionalism, care and deep listening, values that strongly align with Waldorf Learning Foundation’s mission to foster relational-based educational transformation.
They also brought a challenging and refreshing perspective. The structure of the process was intentionally designed with accessibility in mind, particularly for women and people of colour, challenging industry norms that often reinforce structural prejudice.
Fabrice also led conversations with potential trustees around the education sector’s historical legacies, particularly those in need of revision and renewal.
The result was a wide and high-calibre field of candidates. Already, Waldorf Learning Foundation is reviewing its approach to equity, diversity and inclusion, not just as a one-off audit, but through the development of Guiding Queries of Inclusive Practice, designed to embed inclusion as a long-term, lived experience across the organisation.
As Waldorf Learning Foundation looks to the future, this renewed trustee board will help guide a strategic direction rooted in inclusion.
”All the way through our work with them, Tiku and Fabrice modelled this with care and professionalism. They advised us against ‘informal chats’ with potential candidates and instead convened and hosted a Zoom call where we answered questions to a group of unseen candidates. This gave those candidates the opportunity to drill down into potentially difficult questions. In this, we very much appreciated the alignment we shared on issues of social and environmental justice

”Almost without exception, we valued the calibre of the candidates. The three new trustees we now have on our board as a result of this process have hit the ground running.

”Our next steps include a very broad vista as we look to partner with substantive philanthropic donors in equipping teachers and schools with the creative and holistic education resources they are calling for. The new composition of our Trustee board is a foundation to this development, and an assurance that this direction of travel has inclusion at its heart.

”The team were all we had hoped for, and the initial appreciation of their personalised response to us and candid reflections of what they encountered when they did their own due diligence online, certainly shaped the ongoing process and ultimately led to the calibre of the appointments we made.

”I wanted to assist in the education sector and am inspired by the Waldorf methodology. I want to enhance inclusion practices in this area and see how we can encourage a more diverse group of students. I think there is a lot of work to do but alongside the new board members I look forward to being able to add value and learn from each other.
