About Merton Connected

Merton Connected is an independent charity operating within the Borough of Merton. The charity provides finance and services to local voluntary sector organisations, working with Merton Council, South West London NHS and the major independent trusts that provide its funding.

For over 35 years, the organisation has provided a wide range of support to organisations to help them establish, develop and become sustainable. It encourages, supports and develops volunteering and works with organisations in the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to develop partnership activities to benefit the community.

Merton Connected prides itself on having a diverse and talented Trustee Board and works in a Borough where the Merton Council team and the local NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICB) and Integrated Care Services (ICS) work in close partnership with the organisation and the voluntary sector for the benefit of residents.

About the Role

The overall role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of Merton Connected’s finances, working with the Head of Finance, ensuring financial viability and maintaining proper financial records and procedures. The Treasurer also chairs the Finance Committee, which meets two weeks before each Board meeting.

You will be responsible for overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements for the organisation, as well as monitoring the organisation’s investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation’s policies and legal responsibilities. You will be tasked with keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and will contribute to the organisation’s fundraising strategy.

About You

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Financial qualifications and experience
  • Some experience in charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes
  • The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
  • A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis
  • A commitment to the values and principles of Merton Connected

Time Commitment

The role of Treasurer requires a commitment of approximately 10 hours a month.

Board Meetings: Five Board meetings per year

Sub-committee Meetings: Four meetings of the Finance Committee per year
